The royal python is a small python with a black background on which is found irregular blotches of brown/grey. Some start from the belly and go up the sides (these are said to look like crowns, thus the name Royal Python was born), some are on the back. This snake now comes in many morphs.
Western Africa.
3-5ft, with 4ft being average. Some females have been known to reach 6ft.
More than 20 years. The oldest on record is over 50 years old.
A 36x18x18in vivarium is recommended for a single adult. These are shy snakes which do well in small enclosures
Dry forest/scrubland. Being a shy snake, they need to have tighly fitting hides in both the warm and and cool end. Provide a large water bowl as these snakes have been known to have the occasional soak.
The diet for the Royal Python should be made up of rodents.
