Appearance

The eastern kingsnake is a relatively large, heavy bodied colubrid and has white, cream or yellow bands on a dark (brown/black) background. Towards the base of the snake these bands merge, creating a chain-like pattern. This pattern is responsible for the snake having the name Chain king.

 

Locality

The eastern coastal plan from New Jersey pine barrens to northern Florida.

4-6 ft.

 

Approx lifespan

Up to 20 years.

36x18x18in.

 

Basic set up type

Semi-dry woodland. Provide hides at both ends and low sturdy climbing opportunities wherever possible.

 

Diet

The best diet for the Eastern Kingsnake is rodents.
