Appearance

The colour of the common boa is variable, generally a cream to brown background with a brighter, redder tail. A dark stripe runs from the jaw to the eye. The snake is decorated with hourglass-like shapes running along the body.

 

Locality

Central America, Northern Mexico to the north of the Amazon Basin.

 

Adult size

6-12ft, averaging at 8-10ft.

 

Approx lifespan

20 or more years in captivity.

 

REcomended vivarium size

A 5x2x3ft vivarium should be considered the minimum for a single adult common boa.

 

Basic set up type

Dry rainforest type with a large water source for soaking. These boas are known for their good climbing ability so a variety of climbing perches should be provided.

 

Diet

Rodents and rabbits when older for the Common Boa.
